Gary's Mission and Commitments
Gary R. Collins has a variety of interests and activities. For most of his adult life he has been committed to mentoring, teaching, and writing that stimulates competent Christian counseling, equips and encourages leaders (including counselors and spiritual leaders), and contributes to making the church worldwide a more caring institution. Currently he works to develop Christian coaching as a tool to equip leaders - especially emergent leaders - who are Spirit-led, biblically informed, sensitive to people, culturally aware, involved in Christian community, growing in competence and developing their God-given gifts.
Under the Spirit's guidance, Gary's mission is to engage, equip and encourage emerging caregiver leaders to reach their potential. To pursue this goal Gary is highly involved with mentoring, coaching, teaching, writing, speaking and developing resources.
Gary has an insatiable desire to learn, a determination to look ahead, a commitment to connecting with younger people, and an international heart. He relates well with people of different nationalities and seeks to learn from people who have different beliefs and perspectives. Gary applauds next generation leaders who seek to fulfill the great commission and who are committed to reaching, guiding, walking with, and learning from younger people, most of whom (including those in the church) have postmodern perspectives. Often these people bring problems from the past and uncertainties about their futures. They look for mentors, models and coaches who care, who teach them to care, and who urge them to become the spiritual leaders that God wants them to be. Gary is dedicated to being that kind of mentor and coach. He is strongly committed to encouraging others to be mentors and coaches as well.
Gary's Credo
Some companies in the business community develop a credo or company philosophy that guides their dealings with employees, customers, vendors, people in the community, media, and others. This is a statement of the company's values and intentions for doing business and maintaining relationships. Individuals can do something similar. The following is Gary Collins' credo, the principles intended to guide every aspect of his life:
I am a Christian, trained as a psychologist, guided by the vision of a church worldwide comprised of an army of Christ-honoring caregivers, in communities, having an impact. These should be people in submission to Jesus Christ, biblically informed, Spirit-led, culturally alert, sensitive to people, and equipped to care effectively.
No one person mobilizes such an army. That is the work of the Holy Spirit who often chooses to work through human beings to accomplish the purposes of God.
Under the Spirit's guidance, my mission is to equip and encourage emerging caregiver leaders to reach their potential. Most often I connect best with younger, international, and/or Christian leaders, including potential leaders. I seek to be sensitive to God's leading as I pursue this goal, using mentoring, coaching, teaching, writing, speaking and developing resources.
We live in a digital age where the most effective leadership is not about controlling a structured organization from the top down. Today, effective leaders are models who inspire, connect people with each other, build communities, stimulate individual and team initiatives, and help people be all that God intended them to be.
Statement of Commitment
In living my life and working to accomplish these goals, I will - with the strength and guidance that comes from the Holy Spirit and with the ongoing consultation of a small group of dedicated advisors, commit myself to consistently:
* treat family, friends, vendors, current and future coworkers and/or employees, and all others with respect, fairness, honesty, sensitivity and the highest possible integrity.
* listen carefully to others and communicate clearly, politely, and without undue delay.
* pay bills, taxes, salaries, and other financial obligations, in a manner that is fair, efficient, and without undue delay.
* make every possible effort to avoid going into debt. Whenever a debt is incurred, every effort will be made to get out of debt as quickly and efficiently as possible.
* keep accurate, careful, up-to-date records of all financial transactions in my personal and business activities and allow these books to be examined by independent financial auditors and other qualified persons.
* tithe at least ten percent of all earnings every year.
* submit policy decisions, including personal life decisions to an informal board of mature Christians who know me well, who are able and willing to give advice and counsel, and who hold me personally accountable for my actions.
In the development of materials, conferences, services, and other products and activities, I will strive for accuracy, clarity, cultural awareness, sensitivity to the needs of our others, consistency with biblical principles, and the highest possible quality.
In pricing, I will seek to be reasonable and give fair value for the funds that people spend for my services or products.
In marketing products and services I will be honest, respectful, and never knowingly deceptive, misleading, nor manipulative. I will deal with complaints honestly and quickly, seeking to resolve differences in a manner that is satisfactory and beneficial to all concerned.
In so far as this is possible, all of Gary Collins business, ministry, personal, and professional activities will be in accordance with the principles of scripture. I will seek to remember that all we have, all we do, and all we are is because of the grace of God. My activities and those of any employees that I might engage should seek to:
* be guided by the Holy Spirit,
* be committed to bringing honor to Jesus Christ in all that we do, and
* avoid any activities, policies, or attitudes that will dishonor his name or bring discredit to his church.
